This is a piece for two pianos played in tandem, created in October-November 2000 at the request of the client, who asked me to write a piece inspired by his poem.
The original poem was inspired by the metaphor of life as a gear (or a cogwheel) that keeps turning and cannot be replaced, and I was asked to create a piano piece with a restrained quiet feel. I spent a lot of time on the middle part of the rubato section, trying to express the movement of the heart in response to the various ups and downs of life.
